Camp Mary with the Fuller's

We planned a trip to Bryce Canyon so that Scott could run the half marathon. It turned into a mini Fuller family reunion, then Scott couldn't run with his broken hand anyway. My blogs posts are mixed a little bit. We went to Camp Mary a day or two after his accident then his surgery was the week after camp.

Shaersti and Cami really love to play together.

The dogs were the highlight of the trip, even Brigham loved them.

The Fullers are really into Rook. In case you are ever wondering... this is an awesome Rook hand. It's mine!

This is Cami's own machine and she even has a drivers license for it. She is 8. Her and Shaersti were on this all weekend long.

Kolton was such awesome help and Brigham loved him.

Our new favorite game... Bang.

Taking a ride on Dave and Jodi's amazing 4-wheeling machine.

Mountain Bike For Sale!

On the morning of July 11th Scott left to ride his mountain bike to work. He hadn't been gone very long when I got a call from him saying that he had crashed at the very top of Webb Hill. He was talking okay and said he would walk down and meet me at the gate. I ran Brigham to my mom's and started driving up the hill when I got another call from him. This time his voice was really shaky and he told me he couldn't make it to the gate, I would need to get a 4-wheeling truck up to him. In no time at all my mom and Zac were headed up to us in Zac's truck. In the mean time I had gotten to the gate and started runnig up the hill in my flip flops to meet him. I finally met him walking amazingly slow. He was holding his arm and moaning pretty bad. He sat down and started shaking so I made him stand back up and keep walking. We got him into Zac's truck then down to the van then to the hospital. He just kept holding his arm and moaning. I'm not sure if I have ever seen anyone in so much pain. It was incredibly sad.
After a few hours of poking, prodding, x-rays, and lots of drugs, we learned that he had dislocated his elbow and shattered 2 bones in his hand. He also tweaked his ankle and foot, scraped up his knee pretty bad, got bruises and cuts all over him, and got a nice hole in the back of his elbow that needed stitches. I am incredibly grateful that he was wearing a helmet, as it was dented where his head hit a rock.
I didn't get any pictures at the ER (I wasn't exactly prepared to be there). They put him into a full-arm splint and a sling and made him wait for almost a week for swelling to go down (which it never did) before he could go to the orthopedic doctor.

This is in between the ER and the orthopedic doctor.

Doesn't his hand look awesome? And yet... his hand pain has never been as bad as his elbow pain.

This was our first real look at his whole arm at the doctor on the 17th.

The bones that are broken are directly under his pointer and middle fingers. It's sort of obvious in this picture.

The plan at the doctor was to get a cast put on it while it healed. Our plans changed when the doctor took more x-rays.  It turned into a pre-op appointment and we were told to take him to the hospital for surgery the next day.

This is before surgery. He is pretty relaxed. We had the best group of people to work with. It was a huge blessing because I was pretty nervous to send my husband into surgery.

This is after surgery. He wasn't having much fun anymore. He spent a long time in recover and got really drugged up. He finally got someone to loosen the splint then he was doing a ton better. The nurse told him to only eat a few really light things until the morning but he was starving and didn't care. He ate so much that night it was crazy!
He has worn his splint for a week and he goes tomorrow (it's really late, so I guess it's really today) to get a cast put on then he stays in the cast for 3 weeks. It's hard to be a dental tech with one hand! I have seen a lot more of him lately than usual, it's kind of strange.
I have realized, once again, how fragile life is. I am so in love with my husband and I am incredibly grateful that he came out of his wreck as well as he did. I'm thankful that some of his job is on the computer so he can still work right now. I'm thankful that he was wearing a helmet. I'm thankful that we just reduced our insurance deductible (the ER bill alone was $3,500). And I'm thankful for my dad who has taken on a huge load at work to cover for Scott. Midst a trial, we have so many amazing blessings!

The Spartan Beast

Scott did The Spartan Beast in Midway in June. It was such an awesome race to watch. Thanks to my mom tending we had a fabulous little weekend. This is Scott with his friends and co-workers, Sean and Jeremy before the race started. They are so clean!

A big group from his Cross Fit gym did the race, too.

The race is 12 miles and 30 obstacles. I didn't get to see all of the obstacles, but here are a few I did see. Behind this dirt pile it drops down into a mud pit that they have to climb out of.

On the other side of this fence is a slippery rubber mat they had to climb up.

This was the hardest obstacle of all. They had to climb uphill under barbed wire on rocky uneven ground for a long ways. This was after they had already run 8 miles.

They had one chance to hit the target, or do 30 burpees. Scott hit it!

This traverse wall was super muddy and slippery. He was doing really good, then...

He fell off and had to do burpees. I'm proud to say that these are the only burpees he did during the whole race. That's awesome!

Although this was not the only 10-foot wall they had to get over, it's the only one I saw.

More crawling through the mud under barbed wire.

Mud hills... yuck. Can you see the guys head down in the ravine? I don't know how they climbed out of there.

The final crawl to the finish line.

You can't get to the finish line without going through the jousters.

Finally done... yay!

So, so, so muddy... and kinda hot in a weird way!

Scott ended up stripping down to undies to get the mud off. He wasn't the only one walking out of the shower next to naked. What a fun day and an awesome race! Maybe I will attempt it with him next year!

Havasupai

This is probably the longest blog post ever, but it was also one of the best trips ever! Scott and I, Matt and Shellie, and Josh and Michelle went to Havasupai in June. We had such an awesome time hanging out, playing in the water, and eating Mountain House like crazy. This is early in the morning before we hiked down in.

Arriving in Havasupai

Scott and Josh were in the water before we even found a camp site.

This is Scott's head under a waterfall right in our very own camp "hot" tub (the water was freezing).

This picture looks so fake... but it's so real!

Matt had a walking stick that he got super creative with. He even used it to haul all our water to our camp site.

Josh didn't feel good for the entire trip. He would act like he was just fine then you would catch him doing something like this.

This is the camp table we ate all our meals at, right on the awesome river.

Scott about to take a bath in the freezing water

The crazy hike down to Mooney Falls

We loved Matt and Shellie's choice of clothing. They looked like a darling little 80-year-old couple.

Kissing spot. It was so awesome to have time without any  kid worries

Michelle and I washing our hair

How often do you get to see 3 women in the shower?

... or shaving their legs?

Scott jumping off an awesome waterfall

Michelle coaxing me to jump off the same waterfall (it took a lot of coaxing).

Josh doing a dive-bomb (or something). Isn't the water amazing?

Josh jumping off a cliff that was a lot higher than it looks at Hidden Falls.

Shellie found a place to nap after they had taken down their tent on the last day. We always napped in the middle of the day... it was so wonderful.

Matt found an even better table to sleep on.

Scott loved this picture of our camp right on the river.

Matt was referred to as the "walking dumpster" because he had stuff just hanging off of him during the hike.  We had such an amazing trip that we would like to start going every year. It's a hike that's well worth taking.
